Stratford AC's Wilson leads England to team gold
HOT on the heels of the gold medal success of fellow club member Phil Brennan in Australia, Stratford AC’s other septuagenarian international athlete, Roger Wilson, was on international duty for England in Glasgow.
Wilson, who has had a torrid couple of years with injury, finished first in his age group in the 6k race, winning gold in a superb time of 26.12, a full 48 seconds ahead of the second-placed runner.
In doing so, he also led home the English team, to claim team gold. English runners finished in first, third and fifth places, finishing with nine points, comfortably ahead of second-placed Scotland, on 20 points.
Wilson and Brennan’s next event will be as part of a team representing SAC, at the British Masters’ Cross Country Relay Championships, at Long Eaton, on 19th November.
