Stratford Ladies finish third in Super Sunday tournament
STRATFORD Ladies rounded off a highly successful season with a third-place finish in the final Super Sunday tournament of the season at Droitwich.
The Black and Whites had already secured top spot in the NE Midlands Ladies’ Touch League and they were sitting joint first in the Super Sunday competition with Pershore and Ross.
The day started well for Stratford with a 5-0 win against Berkswell and Balsall, with a brace each for skipper Jane McGovern and England under-18 international Maddie Rendell and one for Helen Clifford.
Stratford then saw off local rivals Wellesbourne by four tries, with a hat-trick from Rendell and another for McGovern.
The last two games in the pool were against teams in the opposite league. Ross were up first, with Stratford going down 2-0.
After a break, Stratford bounced back with a 4-2 win over Greyhounds thanks to scores from Rendell (3) and McGovern.
The results put Stratford in second place in the pool. They went on to face Pershore, where they lost a tight match 1-0.
This put Stratford in the third and fourth place play-off against Redditch and Stratford played some excellent rugby to triumph 3-1. Rendell and Clifford scored again, while there was also a try for debutant Kala Raines.
Stratford will now enjoy a well earned break before returning to training in January ahead of the new season in March.
