STRATFORD Ladies produced a string of superb performances to win their first Super Sunday event of the season last weekend.

The two sides of the Midlands Ladies Touch League came together at Old Laurentians RFC, with Stratford remaining unbeaten on the day to claim the title.

The Black and Whites team featured just nine players and without their head coach on the sidelines, they knew a big team effort was required to go all the way.

Stratford found themselves in a group with Newbold Falcons and Old Coventrians, who they beat 5-0 and 7-0 respectively to finish top of the pool.

Maddie Massey led the way with five tries, with others coming from Steph Huber (4) and captain Jane McGovern (3). Stratford then went on to face Ross and they were held to a 1-1 draw, with the try coming from Jane McGovern.

The next opponents were Pershore, who were clear winners of both their league and the Super Sunday competition last year.

Stratford went 2-0 up in the first half with a try apiece from Sarah Munday and Rachel McGovern.

Pershore showed their quality and fought back to earn a 2-2 draw.

The final match of the day brought up Redditch and once again Stratford went ahead in the first half, with a fifth try of the day from Jane McGovern.

The second half saw an excellent defensive effort from the team and Redditch could not find a way through.

Stratford finished their second tournament in a row unbeaten thanks to a great team effort. Huber’s tries and strong defence earned her the Player of the Tournament award.

The next tournament is a Super Sunday tournament at Pearcecroft on 17th July. Training takes place at 6.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Pearcecroft. The team are always looking for new players to join.
