STRATFORD Oaks Golf Club professional Iain Powell and his amateur partner Scott Reynolds faded after a bright start in the regional qualifying round for the PGA Lombard Trophy at Little Aston.

With a chance to win a trip to the final in Portugal, the pair were well placed on the leaderboard at six-under after five holes.

Reynolds won a qualifying medal at Stratford Oaks to play with Powell in the qualifier by shooting a superb round of nett 64 and showed similar form in the early stages at Little Aston, starting with two nett birdies in the first three holes.

Powell then holed his second shot from 120 yards out for an eagle on the par-four fourth and then made another eagle on the par-five 12th after hitting a soaring three iron from 250 yards to ten feet to take the pair to six-under.

Unfortunately they couldn’t continue the momentum and finished on four-under, four shots behind the winners, but in a top-ten place.
