There's no need to panic, says Stratford skipper Brown

Mike Brown says there is no need to panic following Stratford's ten-wicket defeat to Wombourne last weekend.

SKIPPER Mike Brown says there is no need to panic after Stratford were dismissed for just 39 runs on Saturday.

The Panthers slumped to a ten-wicket defeat to Wombourne in their Birmingham League Division Two match at Swans Nest Lane.

“I don’t think you can panic over Saturday,” said Brown.

“Hopefully it was just a bit of a freak result and a one-off. “I’ve never been involved in a game like it and certainly not one that’s had such a low score. It wasn’t great.”

Andrew Fisher top scored with 16 for Stratford, but seven of his colleagues were dismissed without scoring as Kuldeep Diwan (5-6) and Adam Quiney (5-33) bowled unchanged for 20.5 overs.

It left Wombourne the formality of securing a win that keeps the pressure on Harborne at the top of division two.

Brown added: “They opened with their overseas player who is a very good spinner and we just didn’t have any answer to it.

“I was initially worried about getting back for the England game (football), but with the early finish I even managed to catch the second half of the Albania game!”

Brown has opted to name an unchanged side for this week’s league match at Halesowen.

“I’ve decided to stick with the same side,” he said.

“It’s a great opportunity for the players to put the things right that were wrong last weekend.”

Team: John Price, Rob West, Yasser Sirdar, David Bailey, Perry Derrick, Chris Calcott, Adrian Witts, Sam Douthwaite, Andrew Fisher, James Urquhart, Mike Brown (c).
