STRATFORD Town manager Carl Adams says the signs are promising after they kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 1-1 draw against Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday.

Richard Gregory scored a second-half equaliser as Town prepared for the new Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division season, which begins on Saturday, 6 August.

The game saw all of Town’s new signings make their first starts, including Niall Cooper, who made an assured debut in goal following the departure of Andy Kemp.

“It was a great workout,” said a delighted Adams.

“At this stage, I think we’re in a better position than what we were this time last year.

“Defensively we’re looking strong. We’ve got some big lads in the team and we’ve also got a bit of pace back there too.

“I’m happy with the performance, but not getting carried away by any means.”

After a first half of few chances, the visitors went ahead on 55 minutes from the spot after Jordan Cullinane-Liburd tripped Ousmane Fane in the area. Andre Brown fired home the resulting penalty.

Town were awarded a spot-kick of their own just three minutes later, when Gregory was bundled over by the Kidderminster goalkeeper.

The striker went on to miss the penalty after attempting a delicate chip over the keeper, but Gregory was alert to stab home the rebound and earn Town a hard-earned draw.

More reaction in next week's Herald.
