Two Castles Run raises more than £100,000 for charity
THOUSANDS of runners took to the streets for the popular 10k road race between Warwick and Kenilworth's castles on Sunday.
Now in its 34th year, the race had a full entry of 4,000 runners and is once again expected to have raised more than £100,000 for charity.
The Mayor of Warwick and local MP Chris White started competitors on their way at Warwick Castle at 9am, and the first runner, Daniel Nash, crossed the line at Kenilworth Castle some 32 minutes and 34 seconds later.
Nash, a member of East Cornwall Harriers and first-time Two Castles competitor, narrowly beat runner-up Alistair Smith and in third place was Stephen Page.
Stratford AC's Richard Shephard finished fourth in a time of 34.23.
The first female to cross the line was Sarah Rose from Kenilworth Runners in a time of 38 minutes and 31 seconds.
Male team prize went to Coventry Godiva Harriers and the female team victors were Kenilworth Runners.
Rotarian Race organiser Philip Southwell said: “As always our priority is to have a safe, injury free event and today we have again achieved that together with raising £100 for charity.”
Richard Thornton, joint senior partner of Blythe Liggins Solicitors in Leamington Spa who have sponsored the Two Castles Run for more than ten years, said: “It was great to be involved with the event once again.
"We had 30 runners from Blythe Liggins taking part this year, each one finished and some with personal bests.
"Once again Kenilworth Rotary did a fantastic job. We are already looking forward to next year’s run.”
