Weekend football round-up
ALCESTER Town extended their unbeaten run to nine games with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Continental Star at Stratford Road on Saturday.
Jamie Bailey and Ryan Watson were the men on target as Alcester kept themselves in contention for promotion to Midland League Division Two.
Alcester are now preparing for a gruelling four games in six days, three of which are against promotion rivals.
“Not only is it the amount of games, it is the quality of opposition as well," said Alcester boss, Danny Janes.
"FC Stratford on Monday followed by Boldmere on Tuesday is very difficult, but we are prepared and we have the players to cope with the demands.
"Solihull are always a difficult team, then we host Boldmere on Saturday. We will need to rotate the team to maintain intensity and every player will play a crucial role this week.”
Monday's opponents FC Stratford claimed a vital 3-1 victory over promotion rivals Bartestree at the MoodChimp Stadium.
A superb first-half performance saw Stratford lead 3-0 at half-time thanks to strikes from Daniel Stokes, Nicholas Cox and Ashley Wilkes.
Bartestree got one back in the second half, but the damage was already done and Stratford were back to winning ways following Thursday's defeat to Continental Star.
Joe Godson and Nick Shurmer got the goals as Shipston Excelsior fought out a 2-2 draw with AFC Solihull, while Central Ajax were thrashed 12-2 by GNP Sports at Hampton Road.
In Midland League Division One, free-scoring Studley hammered Bolehall Swifts 8-0 courtesy of strikes from Andrew Nichol (4), Chris Cowley (2), Josh Westwood and an own goal.
Racing Club Warwick's game against Hinckley AFC was postponed due to the wet weather.
