Weekend football round-up
ALCESTER Town and FC Stratford had to settle for a point apiece in a hard-fought derby at Stratford Road on Saturday.
Keiran Downey gave Alcester an early lead, but FC Stratford fought back and produced a strong second half performance.
They were eventually rewarded for their domiance when Alcester defender Ben Pattison directed the ball into his own net in an attempt to head the ball over the bar.
"I think the draw was a fair result," said Alcester player-boss, Danny Janes.
"The pitch was terrible and it impacted on the quality of both sides, it was very difficult to try and play football on."
Elsewhere in Midland League Division Three, Shipston Excelsior moved back up to third spot following a 4-1 home success over Castle Vale Town.
Jake Harris claimed a brace, while there were singles from Chris Mills and Tom Coles.
In Midland League Division One, Southam United crashed to another heavy defeat at Pack Meadow, as Chelmsley Town, who had notched up three goals in a one-sided first half, turned the screw after the break to hit five more as they sealed an 8-0 win.
Racing Club Warwick came out on top of a seven-goal thriller at Stafford Town.
Wade Malley (2), Mark Turton and Jake Brown got the goals as the Racers won 4-3 to move up to fourth in the table.
Littleton secured their third win on the trot with a 2-1 victory over Hinckley AFC at Five Acres.
In Midland League Division Two, Earlswood Town picked up another point in their fight against relegation following a 3-3 draw with Coton Green.
