Weekend football round-up




ALCESTER Town saw off Coventrians in a penalty shootout to progress to the next round of the Challenge Vase at Stratford Road on Saturday.

The teams could not be separated after 120 minutes of action and the game had to be settled from the spot, with Danny Janes' side edging it 3-2.

The game finished 3-3 after extra-time, with Alcester's goals coming from Robbie Davies, Isaiah Graham-Clarke and Joe Shaw.

In the Coventry Telegraph Cup, FC Stratford bowed out following a 1-0 defeat to Whitnash at Acre Close.

Shipston Excelsior suffered only their second Midland League Division Three defeat of the season as they were beaten 3-1 at Northfield Town.

Joe Godson was on target for Shipston, but Northfield proved too strong on the day as the home side made it four wins on trot.

In Midland League Division One, rock-bottom Southam United were thrashed 12-0 at Hinckley AFC. Ryan Seal helped himself to four goals, while Paul Sullivan bagged a hat-trick.

Racing Club Warwick remain in eighth following a 3-1 home success against Littleton.

Matthew Fusco netted for the visitors, but the Racers claimed all three points thanks to strikes from Wade Malley, Martin Slevin and Joseph Wright.

Studley began life without manager Kevin Kingham in the best possible fashion with a 2-1 success at Atherstone Town. Keith Draper and Ben Wilkinson got the crucial goals for the Bees, who move up to 17th.

In Midland League Division Two, Earlswood Town lifted themselves off the bottom after claiming a point in a 3-3 draw at Barnt Green Spartak.
