ALCESTER Town produced a resilient display to topple high-flying Moors Academy at Stratford Road on Saturday.

Danny Janes' side won 2-1 thanks to first-half goals from Matt Layton and Connor Poole.

Moors got one back through AJ Andrews, but Alcester held firm to secure a much-needed three points.

“I thought as a team we were outstanding," said manager Janes.

"I said at the start of the season that as a new team we needed five or six games to build a team spirit which would support our performances.

"The players showed that togetherness today."

Elsewhere in Midland League Division Three, Shipston Excelsior had to work hard to claim a point in a 3-3 draw at Barton United.

Lewis Fathers, Joe Godson and Jake Harris were all on target for Steve Hedderman's side, who stretched their unbeaten run to five matches.

FC Stratford slumped to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of struggling Castle Vale Town at the Vale Stadium.

In Midland League Division One, Southam United are still looking for their first win following a 3-2 defeat to Atherstone Town.

Goals from Ross Knight and Luke Mason looked to have earned the Saints at least a point, but a hat-trick from Alex Naughton saw Atherstone claim victory.

Littleton were thrashed 7-2 at Leicester Road, while Studley were held to a 1-1 draw by struggling Stafford Town.

Racing Club Warwick moved up to sixth with a 7-3 win at Nuneaton Griff.

In Midland League Division Two, Earlswood Town produced a poor display in a 2-0 defeat to Fairfield Villa.
