Weekend football round-up

WIL Beach scored the only goal as Shipston Excelsior edged out local rivals Alcester Town at Stratford Road on Saturday.

In a scrappy game, the deciding moment arrived midway through the second half when an Alcester clearance hit Beach and ended in the net.

Town pressed for an equaliser, but Shipston held firm to continue their superb start to their Midland League Division Three campaign.

"I felt we did enough to win the game or at least get a point out of it," said Alcester manager Danny Janes.

"We had two chances cleared off the line and Shipston were lucky with their goal, the luck seems to be going against us at the moment. However, full credit to them as they defended well and kept us out."

In the Les James Challenge Cup, FC Stratford progressed thanks to a 3-2 win at Inkberrow.

Goals from Sam Davis, Ben Hill and Freddy Murphy cancelled out Inkberrow strikes from Thomas Clewes and Teifion Thomas.

In Midland League Division One, two goals apiece from Karl Douglas and Adam Keeley steered Chelmsley Town to a 6-1 victory over Studley at Pack Meadow.

Scott Devlin got one back for the visitors, who have now lost five of their seven league games.

Southam United are still searching for their first win, following a 5-0 defeat at Lichfield City.

Ben Lund (2), Daniel Griffiths, Kieron Mortiboys, Daniel Thurstance were the men on target.

Connor Perry-Holmes claimed a brace to help Littleton claim their second league success of the season against Heather St Johns at Five Acres.

Matthew Fusco and Ben Judd were also on the mark in a 4-2 victory.

Earlswood Town were thrashed 5-0 in their Midland League Division Two match at Droitwich Spa. Nick Seabourne (3), James Lemon and Matthew Hunt all netted for Droitwich, who move up to third.
