Alcester Town player-manager James Robbins saw his side's hopes of a top-four finish end at Smithswood Firs on Saturday.

ALCESTER Town's hopes of finishing in the Midland League Division Three top four were ended on a scorching afternoon at Smithswood Firs, who secured a 4-1 victory to seal promotion.

Town, still without several key players through injury and unavailability, went behind early on after good work down the right by Smithswood's Dan Charlton who crossed for Curtis Thomas to turn the ball home.

The home side added further goals through Troy Baker and Lee Sayer with Town struggling to get to grips with the Smithswood front three.

Following a change of shape, Alcester were much improved in the second period and hit back through Leon Blundell who ran through and slotted past the Smithswood goalkeeper to reduce the arrears.

The home side got a fourth through Aaron Anderson whose volleyed effort left Town goalkeeper Paul Dipple with no chance.

Robbie Davies found himself through one-on-one to pull another goal back, but his lobbed effort was kept out by the Smithswood goalkeeper.

In Midland League Division Two, relegated Earlswood Town completed their league fixtures with a 1-1 draw against fellow strugglers Feckenham.

Earlswood took the lead in the 31st minute when Matt Green was put through by Jamie Corrigan and his shot past the advancing keeper hit the back of the net.

The visitors equalised eight minutes from time with a shot from just outside of the penalty area which beat Earls' keeper Daniel Rushe.

In Midland League Division One, Littleton ended their season on a winning note with a 2-1 success over Atherstone Town at Five Acres.

Lewis Marston and Douglas Wallace got the winning goals for Littleton, who finish in ninth place.

Meanwhile, a season to forget for Southam United came to an end at Banbury Road last Thursday when Leicester Road inflicted another heavy defeat.

Having lost by five goals in the away fixture at the end of October, it was always going to be a tough task against a side pushing for fourth place and entry into next season's FA Cup.

They fell behind in just the seventh minute to a goal by Callum O'Sullivan and conceded four more before the break. Jake Holt completed the scoring with three minutes to go to give the visitors a 6-0 win.
