Wellesbourne Ladies finish as region's best in Super Sunday tournament
WELLESBOURNE Ladies finished an excellent third in the first Super Sunday tournament of the year last weekend.
Bourne enjoyed a solid start, claiming a 2-1 win over Bredon thanks to two tries from a speedy Becky Hart.
The second game was Drybrook, the opposing team taking an early lead, but Bourne kept their heads high and responded with three tries, scooped through the centre of play by Natasha Rose and all touched won by the in-form Hart.
Berry Hill were next up, with Bourne easing to a 3-0 success and their first clean sheet of the day.
The first try came from captain Rose set up by Catriona Rollason who played an awesome first tournament of the season after suffering a fractured ankle.
This was followed quickly by an epic run down the pitch and score from Rachel Rowles. The third and final try of the match was a cracking dive from our player of the tournament Cathy Young.
Fantastic communication from Amy Esposito and Jackie Proctor in defence ensured the clean sheet.
Unfortunately for Bourne, top try scorer Becky Hart was injured during the match and the team were now down to just seven players.
Brecon would be our final opponents in our pool. It was another tough game, with Brecon taking an early lead before Rose scored a late try to claim a 1-1 draw.
Bourne took top spot in the pool with seven points out of a possible eight and they went through to their final games against the other top teams.
They took on a young and pacy Ledbury and suffered a 5-1 defeat before a 3-0 defeat in the final game against last year’s south west winners Pershore.
Despite the final two defeats, Wellesbourne finished as the top performing side in the north east region.
