Wellesbourne Ladies' season off to a superb start
WITH poor weather hampering pre-season training, Wellesbourne Ladies had to pull out all of the stops as they claimed glory in the first North East Midlands tournament of the season.
Wellesbourne got off to a flying start with a 6-0 victory over Rugby St Andrews.
The team demonstrated some fantastic pace, scoring tries through Katherine Holian, skipper Natasha Rose (3), Becky Hart and Claire Davis.
Bourne approached the second game against Pinley with the same intensity.
This time, it was Davis with the hat-trick as Bourne eased to a 6-1 win. Hart added to her tally with two more tries, while Rose also went over.
The next game in the pool was against Camp Hill and a close encounter finished 1-0 to Bourne thanks to a solitary try from Davis.
Bourne progressed to the final against last year’s league winners Redditch. It was another tough game, but some superb defensive work laid the foundations for another victory.
The winning try arrived when some quick thinking from Kendal saw her pass the ball out to Davis on the wing and a dash down the try line and yet another touchdown for Davis gave Bourne the lead.
The last few minutes proved tense, but Bourne stayed strong as they were crowned overall winners.
Anyone interested in joining the team can attend the club’s training sessions which take place every Thursday from 7pm at the Home Guard Club in Tiddington.
