'Lady Macbeth' Niamh Cusack opens new exhibition by Eve Parnell
IRISH actress Niamh Cusack opened a new exhibition by fellow countrywoman Eve Parnell earlier this mont.
Eve’s latest collection, Truth hath a quiet breast, includes pencil-on-tissue-paper drawings inspired by the surroundings of Hall’s Croft, the elegant home of Shakespeare’s daughter Susanna, where the exhibition will run until autumn.
The precise detailed monochrome drawings are in the north European tradition of realism rooted in Netherlandish art, from the 15th to 17th centuries.
Talking about her work, Eve tells Herald arts: “In this exhibition I will be showing framed drawings which are a variety of sizes, inspired by domestic scenes and more ‘monumental’ observations, this is a reflection of the location, Hall’s Croft, full of history with tangible love.
“I choose pencil on tissue paper because I believe art should be for everyone, and this media represents a type of equality and the fragility of life.”
Eve was also delighted with the turn out at the exhibition launch, she says: “It was a great success!
“There was a huge turn out from local people, filling the room with good cheer and happy conversation, guests also attended from all over England. And Niamh Cusack was amazing!”
The exhibition was made possible through the support of Culture Ireland as part of its GB18 programme, promoting Irish arts in Britain, and exhibition hosts, The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, which cares for Hall’s Croft and four other historic Shakespeare houses in and around Stratford.
