RSC's The Other Place hosts free open day
Theatre tickets will be on sale for the bargain price of 70p when the RSC’s The Other Place holds an open day this Saturday, 2nd July.
There will also be tons of free family activities on offer.
There will be a limited number of 70p tickets for the RSC’s Making Mischief Festival which runs from 27th July for a month. The festival sees a number of challenging plays on subjects such as race and terrorism performed at the Studio Theatre, and will also include two new plays, Fall of the Kingdom, Rise of the Foot Soldier by Somalia Seaton, and Always Orange by Fraser Grace.
When The Other Place first opened in 1974, the price of a ticket was 70p.
The following activities also take place at the ‘Open House’ event:
20-minute taster theatre tours, with glimpses into The Studio Theatre, a rehearsal room and the Costume Store, at 1pm, 1.30pm, 2pm, 2.30pm, 3pm and 3.30pm. You can prebook tour tickets on 01789 403493.
Live music in the foyer between 5.30-7pm with Birmingham based musicians and singers, Alima, Rochaé, Ed Geater and Barbella, and poet Raza Hussein.
Blood, Guts and Gore, 12 noon – learn how the RSC creates fake scars and bruises.. Free tickets will be available 15 minutes in advance.
A Big Pub Quiz from 7.30-9.30pm. Just turn up on the night and form a team. Although most of the questions will be general knowledge, there will be one Shakespeare themed round.
Activities for younger visitors, including a dressing-up box, special colouring sheets, and a cart with fun craft activities.
Susie’s Cafe Bar in the foyer of The Other Place will be open from 10am; food and drink can also be enjoyed in the outdoor courtyard area.
A visit to the Open House can also be combined with a performance at the RSC’s outdoor theatre, The Dell, located just a few metres away from The Other Place. On 2 July the Brit School performs Titus Andronicus at 1pm and Much Ado about Nothing at 3pm. Entrance is free and no booking required.
